Chutney for idli & dosa without coconut is a greatΒ side dishΒ for South Indian breakfast like dosa and idli. Normally we prepare chutney using coconut. But this chutney is prepared without using coconut but tastes like coconut chutney. It is a very simple and tasty dosa chutney or idli chutney prepared in a few minutes. This chutney can be prepared using Roasted Gram, Pottukadalai, onion and green chilly with simple seasoning with mustard seeds, urad dhal, red chilly, small onion and curry leaves. This seasoning gives a nice flavor to this chutney. Pottukadalai is called Roasted Gram, Roasted Bengal Gram, Roasted Split Gram, Chutney Dal, Fried Chana, Bhuna Chana and roasted split chickpea. First, saute green chilly and onion and grind it with roasted gram and add this to seasoning. Donβt want to boil. It is a very important step in this chutney. Cookery ParkIngredients
- 1 tbsp Oil
- 8 Green chilly
- 2 Onion (chopped)
- ΒΌ cup Roasted Gram (Pottukadalai)
- Salt (as needed)
- Water (as needed)
For seasoning
- 2 tsp Oil
- ΒΌ tsp Mustard seeds
- Β½ tsp Urad dhal
- 1 Red chilly
- Curry leaves (few)
- 5 Small onion (chopped)
Instructions
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan.
- Add green chilly saute well.
- Add chopped onion and saute until it turns golden brown. Switch off the flame and allow it to cool.
- In a mixer, add sauteed onion, roasted Gram(pottukadalai),salt and water grind it into a slightly coarse paste.
- Heat 2 tsp oil in a pan.
- Add mustard seeds, urad dhal, red chilly and curry leaves saute well.
- Add chopped small onion saute until it turns golden brown and switch off the flame.
- Add grinded paste and enough water into it and mix well.
- Delicious chutney is ready to serve with dosa or idly.
