What is Omapodi | Plain sev
Omapodi is an easy and crispy South Indian tea time snack that is prepared using besan/gram flour. The main ingredient in omapodi is omam/ajwain/carom seeds which give a nice flavor to omapodi and omam/carom seeds are very healthy also. It is good for digestion and has antibacterial properties. Cookery ParkIngredients
- 1 cup Gramflour
- ΒΌ cup Rice flour
- ΒΌ tsp Turmeric powder
- Β½ tsp Asafoetida
- ΒΎ tsp Salt (or as needed)
- 1 tbsp Butter / Hot oil
- Oil (for frying)
- Curry leaves (few)
- 1 tbsp Omam
- Β½ cup Water ( or as needed)
Instructions
- In a mixie, add omam coarsely grind it and then add water grind well and filter the omam water keep aside.
- In a bowl, add gram flour, rice flour, turmeric powder, asafoetida and salt. Heat oil and add into the flour mix well
- Add omam water little by little and make a smooth dough.
- Fill the dough in a sev mould.
- Heat oil in a pan and press the dough in the hot oil.
- Fry both sides of omapodi in medium flame until it turns crispy.
- Once all dough finished, add curry leaves into the oil and fry well.
- Add fried curry leaves into omapodi.
- Once it cools down, break it into pieces and store it in an airtight container.
