Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan.
Add green chilly saute well.
Add chopped onion and saute until it turns golden brown. Switch off the flame and allow it to cool.
In a mixer, add sauteed onion, roasted Gram(pottukadalai),salt and water grind it into a slightly coarse paste.
Heat 2 tsp oil in a pan.
Add mustard seeds, urad dhal, red chilly and curry leaves saute well.
Add chopped small onion saute until it turns golden brown and switch off the flame.
Add grinded paste and enough water into it and mix well.
Delicious chutney is ready to serve with dosa or idly.
