Peel off the skin, remove the seeds and cut raw papaya into pieces.
Finely grate papaya using a grater.
In a pan, add grated papaya and water and cook for 5 minutes.
Drain out all water and keep cooked papaya aside.
Heat oil in a pan.
Add mustard seeds, jeera, curry leaves and red chilly saute well.
Add cooked papaya and saute for a few minutes.
Add turmeric powder, red chilly powder, jeera powder and salt and saute for a few minutes.
Finally, add ½ cup shredded coconut and mix well.
Tasty papaya poriyal is ready to serve.
